Divorce Law

Divorce is one of the most personal decisions a person can make. Michael Walker understands that, and his approach to divorce law reflects it. Walker Law handles Uncontested, Contested, and Default Divorces across Davidson County and most surrounding counties in Middle Tennessee.

When both spouses are in agreement on the terms, an uncontested divorce is often the most practical and affordable path forward. Walker Law offers flat fee uncontested divorce representation starting at $400 with no minor children and $500 with minor children. There are no hidden fees and no hourly billing that climbs without warning.

Getting started is straightforward. Contact the office to request the Statistical Information Worksheets. Once completed, those forms give Michael Walker everything he needs to prepare your divorce papers. Same day filing is available for those who need to move quickly. You will have the full 60 to 90 day waiting period that Tennessee law requires to complete your remaining balance.

You have control.

In an uncontested divorce, the couple controls how decisions are made, when paperwork is filed, and on what terms. If you need more time or want to move quickly, Walker Law will make either happen.

All the work is done for you.

Walker Law prepares and files all necessary paperwork. All you need to do is fill out the statistical information relating to both parties and any children or property involved.

Easier on the children.

When parents work together toward a peaceful resolution, children adjust better. Walker Law supports that process and guides both parties through the parenting plan requirements Tennessee law requires.

You can still go to court.

Beginning as an uncontested divorce does not remove your right to take matters before a judge. If an agreement cannot be reached, you can stop the process at any time and retain separate attorneys.

Michael Walker handles divorce cases in Davidson, Bedford, Cannon, Cheatham, Coffee, DeKalb, Dickson, Giles, Hickman, Lawrence, Lewis, Macon, Marshall, Maury, Montgomery, Perry, Robertson, Rutherford, Sumner, Warren, Williamson, and Wilson counties. If your county is not listed, call the office.

Criminal Defense

Facing a criminal charge is serious, and the decisions you make early in your case matter. Michael Walker has been defending clients in Middle Tennessee since 2005, handling everything from misdemeanors to serious felony offenses. He will review the facts of your case honestly, explain what you are facing, and work toward the best possible resolution available to you.

Charges Walker Law handles include:

Expungement

A criminal charge that has already been resolved can still follow you. Background checks for employment, college admission, and professional licensing have become routine, and an old charge on your record can quietly close doors you did not know were closing.

A charge does not disappear on its own. If your case was dismissed, retired, resulted in a not guilty verdict, or was resolved through diversion, the step of having it expunged from your public record may not have been completed. Walker Law can handle that process for you.

Tennessee law also allows certain convictions to be expunged. As of 2017, residents convicted of no more than two eligible offenses, either two misdemeanors or one felony and one misdemeanor, may qualify. Michael Walker will run a background check to confirm your eligibility. If you have an expungeable charge, the background check fee is applied as credit toward the cost of the expungement.

Traffic Violations

A traffic charge is easy to underestimate. Depending on the violation, the consequences can include points on your license, increased insurance rates, license suspension, or a permanent mark on your driving record. Michael Walker handles traffic violations throughout Middle Tennessee and works to protect your record and your driving privileges.

Walker Law handles charges including DUI, Reckless Driving, Driving on a Suspended, Revoked, or Cancelled License, and a wide range of other traffic citations.

Free Window Tint Inspections

As a courtesy to the community, Walker Law offers free window tint inspections at the office using an electronic testing device. Tennessee law requires a visible light transmittance of at least 35% on most vehicle windows. If you are unsure whether your vehicle is in compliance, stop by and Michael Walker will check it for you at no charge.

Michael K. Walker graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in both Psychology and Criminal Justice Administration. He went on to earn his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Nashville School of Law. He has lived in Middle Tennessee his entire life, and that connection to this community is reflected in the way he practices law.

Michael Walker is a member of the Nashville Bar Association and the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He regularly attends legal seminars and continuing education programs to stay current on changes in the law and to sharpen his ability to represent his clients effectively. His continuing education spans criminal defense, DUI law, divorce and family law, juvenile defense, and legal ethics.
